Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Axle Shaft R&R

Refer to Fig. 1 when performing the following procedure.
1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Remove the rear tires and wheels.
3. Disconnect the rear brake pipes and the hoses from the rear axle.
4. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the rear axle mounting bracket.
5. Support the rear axle with a hydraulic lift table.
6. Remove the rear coil springs.
7. Remove all rear axle mounting bracket to body bolts.
8. Use the hydraulic lift table to lower the rear axle from the vehicle.
9. Remove the rear axle bushing through bolts and the rear axle mounting brackets.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
  a. Torque axle bushing through bolts to 66 ft. lbs.
  b. Torque rear axle bracket to body bolts to 66 ft. lbs.
