Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Catalytic Converter R&R

1. Raise and support vehicle.
2. Remove wheel drive shaft heat shield.
3. Remove Heated Oxygen Sensor (HO2S).
4. Remove catalytic converter to resonator pipe nuts, Fig. 1.
5. Remove catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts, Fig. 2.
6. Remove catalytic converter, Fig. 2.
7. Discard exhaust gaskets.
8. Clean flange mating surfaces of any remaining gasket material.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting following:
  a. Install a NEW gasket onto exhaust manifold studs.
  b. Torque catalytic converter nuts to 37 ft. lbs.
  c. Install a NEW gasket onto resonator pipe studs.
  d. Torque catalytic converter to resonator pipe nuts to 22 ft. lbs.
