Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Radiator, Replace

1. Drain cooling system into a suitable container.
2. Remove air cleaner outlet resonator.
3. Reposition radiator inlet hose clamp at radiator, using hose clamp pliers tool No. J 38185 or equivalent.
4. Remove radiator inlet hose from radiator.
5. Reposition radiator outlet hose clamp at radiator, using hose clamp pliers tool No. J 38185 or equivalent.
6. Remove radiator outlet hose from radiator.
7. On models with automatic transmission, proceed as follows:
  a. Clean upper transmission oil cooler line connection point and remove line from radiator.
  b. Remove lefthand front wheelhouse liner.
  c. Remove lefthand engine splash shield.
  d. Clean lower transmission oil cooler line connection point and remove line from radiator.
8. On all models, remove cooling fan assembly from radiator by pushing up on fan shroud to unsnap retaining features. Position cooling fan assembly away from radiator and support cooling fan assembly.
9. Remove air dam push-in retainer.
10. Remove air dam.
11. On models with air conditioning, proceed as follows:
  a. Remove condenser bolts.
  b. Slide condenser down to disengage upper mounting tabs from radiator. Position condenser away from radiator and support condenser. You are not required to discharge A/C system.
12. On all models, remove righthand and lefthand radiator side baffles.
13. Remove righthand engine splash shield to radiator mount push-in retainer.
14. On models with manual transmission, remove lefthand engine splash shield to radiator mount push-in retainer.
15. On all models, remove lower radiator mounts, brackets, and bolts.
16. If equipped, tilt condenser forward in vehicle. Tilt cooling fan assembly rearward in vehicle. Remove radiator assembly from vehicle.
17. Remove upper radiator air baffle.
18. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
  a. Fill cooling system with suitable coolant.
  b. Torque lower radiator mount and bracket bolts to 18 ft. lbs.
  c. Torque transmission oil cooler lines to 15 ft. lbs.
