Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Steering Knuckle, Replace

1. Raise and support vehicle using suitable lift.
2. Remove tire and wheel assemblies.
3. Separate outer tie rod end from steering knuckle using suitable tool.
4. Disconnect ABS wiring harness connector.
5. Remove hub and bearing assembly.
6. Remove steering knuckle to strut bolts and nuts, Figs. 1.
7. Remove lower ball joint from steering knuckle.
8. Remove steering knuckle assembly.
9. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
  a. Torque wheel lug nuts to 100 ft. lbs.
  b. Torque tie rod end to steering knuckle nut to 44 ft. lbs.
  c. Torque wheel bearing and hub mounting bolts to 85 ft. lbs.
  d. Torque strut to steering knuckle bolts and nuts to 89 ft. lbs.
