Disarming

The Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) can maintain enough voltage to cause air bag deployment for up to 10 minutes after the ignition is turned off and the battery is disconnected. Servicing the Supplemental air bag (SIR) system during this period may result in accidental deployment and personal injury.
The inflatable restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) maintains a reserved energy supply. The reserved energy supply provides deployment power for the air bags if the SDM loses battery power during a collision. Deployment power is available for as much as one minute after disconnecting the vehicle power. Waiting one minute before working on the system after disabling the SIR system prevents deployment of the air bags from the reserved energy supply.
1. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position.
2. Place ignition in OFF position and remove all fuses supplying power to SDM.The SDM may have more than one fused power input. Ensure all fuses supplying power to SDM are removed to avoid unwanted SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.
3. With all SDM fuses removed and ignition switch in ON position, AIR BAG warning indicator should illuminate. This is normal operation, and does not indicate a SIR system malfunction.
4. Wait at least two minutes before working on system.

Arming

Reverse disarming procedures to arm the Supplemental Restraint System, noting the following:
1. Ensure all disconnected SRS electrical connectors are securely connected and routed.
2. Install all removed fuses in proper locations.
3. From a safe position at sides of or below air bag module, Turn ignition switch to ON position and observe Air Bag or SRS warning lamp.
4. Warning lamp should flash seven to nine times, then go off.
