Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Control Arm, Replace

Front

1. Raise and support vehicle, then remove tire and wheel assembly.
2. Remove ball stud to steering knuckle pinch bolt, then separate ball stud from steering knuckle.
3. Remove control arm to rear frame bolt.
4. Remove remaining control arm to frame bolts, then the control arm from vehicle.
5. Reverse procedure to install, tighten ball joint to steering knuckle nut in four steps as follows:
  a. First step, torque nut to 37 ft. lbs.
  b. Second step, loosen nut 3/4 turn.
  c. Third step, torque nut to 37 ft. lbs.
  d. Fourth step, tighten nut an additional 30°.
  e. Torque ball joint to control arm to 50 ft. lbs.
  f. Torque control arm to front frame bolts to 41 ft. lbs.
