Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Engine Oil Filter R & R

1. Raise and support the vehicle.
2. Place a drain pan under the oil drain plug.
3. Remove the oil pan drain plug.
4. Allow the oil to drain completely.
5. Install the oil pan drain plug.
6. Use tool No. J-44887 to loosen the oil filter cap, Fig. 1.
7. Remove the oil filter cap and filter.
8. Remove the oil filter from the oil filter cap, Fig. 2.
9. Inspect the oil filter cap O-ring seal for damage, replace as necessary.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
  a. Torque the plug to 18 ft. lbs.
  b. Torque oil filter cap to 18 ft. lbs.
