Chevrolet Cobalt Service & Repair Manual: Water Pump Assembly R&R

1. Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor, Fig. 1.
2. Remove the thermostat and water feed pipe retaining bolts, Fig. 2.
3. Remove the thermostat housing and water feed pipe from the water pump cover.
4. Remove the water pump retaining bolts. Be sure to remove the bolt that goes through the front of the engine block, Fig. 3.
5. Remove the water pump assembly.
6. Remove the water pump sprocket (2) and bolts (1), if required, Fig. 4.
7. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
  a. Torque water pump sprocket bolts to 89 inch lbs.
  b. Torque water pump bolts to 18 ft. lbs.
  c. Torque water pump drain plug to 15 ft. lbs.
  d. Torque thermostat housing to block bolts to 89 inch lbs.
  e. Torque engine coolant temperature sensor to 15 ft. lbs.
